Global Forum Overview
Background
The first Global Forum on Fighting Corruption and Safeguarding
Integrity was launched by the United States Government and held in
Washington D.C. in 1999. Global Forum II 'Fighting Corruption
by means of Integrity, Transparency and Responsibility' was held in 2001, at
The Hague, Netherlands. Global Forum III ,'Growing Challenges,
Shared Responsibilities' was hosted by South Korea in 2003 (www.globalforum3.org
) and Global Forum IV 'From Words to Deeds' in Brazil in 2005
(http://www.ivforumglobal.org.br
). South Africa is the first African country to host the Forum.
The overall objective of the Global Forum on Fighting Corruption
and Safeguarding Integrity is to discuss practical and effective measures for
preventing and fighting corruption.
The significance of The Global Forum on Fighting Corruption and
Safeguarding Integrity
The Global Forum is an intergovernmental forum that deals with
fighting corruption on a global scale, providing the opportunity to discuss
anti-corruption good practice and openly exchange information on relevant
policies, practices and measures. These discussions and exchanges are enriched
by the participation of ministers of state, experts, and members of
international organisations, civil society and NGOs.
The Global Forum as such does not replace any formal
intergovernmental platforms but rather seeks to complement such platforms.
The GFV is expected to focus on effective implementation of the
anti-corruption commitments made over time. The fight against corruption is a
key element of the African initiatives to eradicate poverty and to place
African countries on a path of sustainable growth and development.

Integrity will be held from 2 to 5 April 2007 at the Sandton Convention Centre

Committee and the International Organising Committee.
For four days, participants at the GFV on Fighting Corruption and
Safeguarding Integrity will explore the best ways of realising their commonly
held objectives. Fulfilling our commitments: Effective action against
corruption is geared towards:

measures;
